A higher number indicates a more seaworthy boat. A value of 0.40 or higher is often recommended for offshore sailing.
Please note: In theory, the exact Bluewater Value (BWV) for a specific boat cannot be calculated without letting it influence all the other relevant values for all the other boats in the population. Thus, in a strict sense, the calculator provided here provides an approximation of BWV for the boat in question. In practice however, the calculator provides the same result as if the boat in question had been included in the population (because one boat will not significantly influence 8000+ boats).
